My Fair #Selfie

Finally! Fifty years after the release of the film My Fair Lady, ABC has decided to turn the film into a television series.  Well, not exactly.  But, basically, yes.  The book known as Pygmalion, which became the film called My Fair Lady is now the sitcom TV series Selfie.

Selfie (sometimes advertised as #Selfie) stars Karen Gillan as Elize Dooley.  The character is not to be confused with Elize Doolittle.  The show also stars John Cho as Henry.  Henry does not have a last name at this point, but I can only imagine that it is Higginsworth or Higgley, or maybe even Huggins.

The show is not as bad as I had hoped, but not as amaaazing as I had read.  I have not yet decided if it will save the generation of young people born since 1990.  But, it may give their parents and professors hope.

Check it out onDemand.  JSYK, Selfie premieres on ABC on September 30th.

I missed the season premiere of Cycle 21... I missed the makeover.... and I don't even know who was sent home by Tyra and the judges last night... but I do know Keith and Denzel now.....

And that is all that really matters.  JSYK, this is Keith and Denzel....

Spoiler: Keith and Denzel are both STILL in the running to be America's Next Top Model.

"Hall & Simon" (Series Premiere Review)

A few weeks ago I watched the sneak preview of "Garfunkel & Oats", a new series on IFC.  It was hilarious (hilar to some of you)!  Also, it was the only thing onDemand that I had not watched all summer, other than Please Like Me on Pivot.  It was a sunny day in the middle of my rainy summer.  The show gives me hope for my dark Fall nights of the near future.  The almost best part was the tribute to Saved By The Bell's "Hot Sundae" music video.

Now, since we are talking SBTB, I of course have some praises and several critiques:

1.  I LOVE that they geared their series premier directly to me by references SBTB! The scene-by-scene recreation shows that at least someone else out there had (has) the same sick obsession that I had (have) for Kelly, Jessie and Lisa.

2.  The song in the series premiere of Garfunkel & Oats is NO WHERE as well written as the lyrics; "...put your mind to it, go for it, Get down and break a sweat, Rock and roll, You ain't seen nothin' yet".  But, I am still honored at the sentiment.

3.  WHAT THE HELL??!!! Lisa Turtle is replaced with three unknown, non-cast member, black women!  You might have even been able to get Lark in there to reprise her roll.  I don't want to come off as some obsessed SBTB fan-boy.  I know they probably could not have gotten Lark Voorhies to show her face.  But, it is very upsetting that the show used three random black women to replace Lisa Turtle in the video re-make.  This implies that "Lisa" was less than a supporting character on the show.

I really did enjoy the show.  However, this episode is just asking to be mentioned in a thesis paper by a student majoring in African-American Studies.
